I Regress
A dark, David Lynch-ian comedy, ideally suited for an unsettling and surreal late night listen. 'I, Regress' sees Matt Berry playing a corrupt and bizarre hypnotherapist taking unsuspecting clients on twisted, misleading journeys through their subconscious. Each episode sees the doctor dealing with a different client who has come to him for a different problem (quitting smoking, fear of water, etc). As the patient is put under hypnosis, we 'enter' their mind, and all the various situations the hypnotherapist takes them through are played out for us to hear. The result is a dream- (or nightmare-) like trip through the patient's mind, as funny as it is disturbing. (15 Min Episodes)
The titles given are my own and not official.
01. Karen House-Water (Katherine Parkinson) visits Dr Berry to treat her fear of water, and finds that the cure can sometimes be worse than the disease - via mermaids, the titanic, and talking dolphins.
02. Robin Hood - no relation - comes to Dr Matt Berry with a fear of spiders. The diagnosis seems to be that this may all be down to an unusually potent encounter between an arachnid and a South African grandmother..
03. Ms Taffgoon (Morgana Robinson) finds her appointment with Dr Berry to cure a fear of heights takes a strange path, taking in a talking pigeon (Derek Griffiths) and an interplanetary trip. And a field.
04. Ray Highknock (Alex Lowe) goes to Dr Matt Berry hoping that his experimental regressive hypnotherapy will cure his smoking addiction. The result is a series of strange encounters that all seem strangely familiar...
05. Dr Berry's latest patient, Christian Parcel (Nick Lucas) finds himself in the worst place on the planet thanks to some 'experimental hypnotherapy'. But events take a twist that even Dr Berry himself finds hard to control, thanks to a football pitch, a nightclub and a very unusual tattoo...
06. Dr Berry treats some intimidating east-ender twins with unexpected past lives. Can he pull off the double?
